Roland MKS-7

This is one of the most grossly underestimated instruments that Roland ever produced. Known as the Super Quartet, it contains three and a half individual instruments which make for four-way multitimbral capabilities. You've essentially got a stripped down SH-101, the sounds of a Roland TR-707 drum machine (big deal) and a splittable, velocity sensitive version of the Juno-106 - all in two rack spaces. The downside? Not programmable from the front panel and the presets bite. I mean, they really suck. It doesn't seem to have the same shattering bottom end as the 106 or Alpha-Juno-1, either.

To its credit, the filters are stronger than those on the Alpha (although still not up to the high standard of those on the 106) and it can sound very warm, even "dirty" when pushed in that direction.

If you manage to get one of them, it's worth looking for something that will poke the edit buffer using sysex in order to get your own sounds happening.
